about

Zambi. From Kikongo Nzambi. Spirit. Zambi. From New Orleans Creole. The Undead. This song is about being taken. Far from home. Having the will of another imposed, and needing to embody that will, or die-die as opposed to live-die. It’s about the journey across. To the other world, the underworld of evil dreams where up is down and down is up. There is no place for you in this world so your soul flies while your body works. Spirit holds you in the ether of the clouds as you break apart into wind particles, raining back down upon the earth when it’s time. This song is about leaving your body at will. As power. The only power sometimes. The only power more powerful than manpower, mahcinepower, nationpower. Nzambi. My soul has left me before and returned. For the ancestors who survived this weaving in and out of Time. That knew the insanity of sanity. That found Spirit far from home. We carry their stories in our bones.

lyrics

soy cuerpo sin alma
took me from afar
cross oceans and coals
las flamas y mar
soy esclava desnuda
lost all of the lands
the mountains and rivers
still reach out their hands

they call me
daughter, run away
daughter, run away

mama was a ghost
walked streets in the night
i followed her shadow
til soul took flight
papa was a warrior
left us for the war
mama said to him go now
and die for the lord

the stones they remember
they whisper our names
we carry them with us
cross oceans and flames

they call me
daughter, run away
daughter, run away

daughter
run
away
